Genk Cargo Connect to Electrify Rail Access to Port by 2028, First in Belgium

Genk Cargo Connect will invest €1.4 million, largely EU-funded, to electrify rail access to the port of Genk, making it the first Belgian inland terminal with direct electric rail connection. The first electric locomotive is expected to enter the port by 2028. This enhances Belgium's rail freight connectivity to the European network, reducing diesel reliance and improving efficiency.
