China tests first practical submarine solar power plant at 10m depth in open sea

Chinese scientists from Yunnan University have successfully tested a perovskite-based photovoltaic system at 10 metres depth in the open sea, charging batteries and powering an LED panel. This is a first practical demonstration of underwater solar energy harvesting, though the technology is at an early stage and its operational viability for military or commercial use remains unproven. The breakthrough could enable persistent underwater sensing or charging for marine systems, with potential defense applications.
