China-US team finds possible kilonova relic in Milky Way glow

Researchers from China and the US report a high-energy glow in the Milky Way that may be the remnant of a neutron star merger, a rare 'gold factory' event. The finding, posted on arXiv and not yet peer-reviewed, is based on indirect evidence and remains unconfirmed. If validated, it would be the first such relic identified in our galaxy, advancing understanding of heavy element formation.
