Australian democracy activist Tran Hiep detained in Vietnam on terrorism charges, uncontactable

Vietnamese-Australian democracy campaigner Tran Hiep has been held incommunicado in Ho Chi Minh City since mid-September on alleged terrorism and identity fraud charges. The arrest continues Vietnam's pattern of targeting dissidents, but the lack of consular access and the terrorism framing mark an escalation in severity. The case may strain Australia-Vietnam bilateral relations.
