Mexican police kill US girl in Matamoros drug-operation crossfire

Mexican police shot dead a 7-year-old US national in Matamoros during an operation to break drug-cartel road blockades. The justice department claims agents returned fire after being shot at from the ground, but the incident underscores the escalating cartel violence and risks to civilians near the US border. The killing may strain US-Mexico relations and heighten security concerns.
