Juvenile humpback dies after swimming 11km up NSW Clarence River

A juvenile humpback whale swam 11km upstream in the Clarence River, New South Wales, a rare but not unprecedented event, and later died. Authorities towed the carcass out to sea and issued a shark warning. The cause of death and why the whale entered the river remain uncertain.
