EU warns shadow fleet ships are 'ecological time bombs' after six inspections

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas reports six inspections under the EU mission targeting Russia's shadow fleet, calling the vessels 'ecological time bombs' due to their poor condition and risk of oil spills. The statement signals an escalation in EU enforcement efforts against sanctions evasion, though the operational impact remains limited. This matters because a major spill from a shadow fleet tanker could trigger environmental and insurance-linked market disruptions.
