Harvard-Peru team to build cosmic-ray observatory in Colca Canyon

A joint Harvard-Peruvian initiative will install a natural observatory in Colca Canyon to detect ultra-high-energy cosmic rays, aiming to probe the distant universe and conditions near the Big Bang. The project is in early planning stages; funding and timeline remain unspecified. If realized, it would add a major new ground-based astrophysics facility in the Southern Hemisphere.
