North Macedonia expands free IVF attempts from 3 to 6, applications surge

North Macedonia has increased the number of free biomedically assisted reproduction (BPO) attempts for couples from three to six, responding to high demand. In one year, 1,883 applications were submitted, with 237 for the fourth, fifth, or sixth attempt, indicating the policy change is being utilized. This expansion addresses infertility treatment access, a public health priority, though long-term fiscal and demographic impacts remain to be seen.
