Retinal Scans May Estimate Biological Aging Rate

A study analyzing nearly 30,000 retinal images from over 7,500 people developed a model estimating chronological age from the retina, finding that a higher 'retinal age' correlates with diabetes, smoking, macular degeneration, and cataracts. The findings suggest eye scans could serve as a non-invasive biomarker for biological aging, though the clinical utility and causal links remain uncertain. This adds to a growing body of research on aging biomarkers but does not yet change clinical practice.
