Optogenetics trial partially restores vision in retinitis pigmentosa patients

A small clinical trial using optogenetics restored some light sensitivity in about half of treated patients with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative retinal disease. The results are preliminary but represent a proof-of-concept for a novel therapeutic approach. Further validation is needed before broader clinical application.
