US State Dept funding cut threatens closure of American University of Afghanistan

The US State Department is ending funding for the American University of Afghanistan, which currently provides online education to hundreds of Afghan women under Taliban rule. The funding cut threatens the university's closure, potentially ending a rare avenue for higher education for Afghan women. This marks a reversal of US support for Afghan civil society post-withdrawal, with implications for women's rights and US soft power in the region.
