Novaya Gazeta shuts down after foreign agent label

Independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta announced it is ceasing operations, citing its designation as a foreign agent and state pressure. The outlet, known for critical coverage and investigative journalism, had six staff killed and its editor won the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
