Chinese scientists identify genetic barrier to Asian-African rice crossbreeding

Chinese researchers have identified three genes that block successful crossbreeding between Asian and African cultivated rice, potentially enabling high-yield hybrids. The finding is preliminary and not yet field-validated, but could address food security by combining drought tolerance of African rice with high yields of Asian rice.
