Antarctic meltwater accelerates glacial flow; sub-ice ecosystems identified

New drilling data indicates that sub-glacial meltwater is lubricating ice sheets, increasing the velocity of glacial discharge into the ocean. Researchers also identified previously unknown biological ecosystems existing 474 meters beneath the ice shelf, highlighting the complexity of sub-glacial environments.
