Italy to introduce fines for pedestrians using mobile phones while crossing roads

The Italian transport ministry is drafting updates to the highway code to penalize pedestrians distracted by mobile devices, with fines starting at €75. This policy shift follows recent judicial rulings that increasingly hold pedestrians liable for accidents caused by inattention. The measure is expected to be ratified by mid-October.
