Flemish government reduces protected zone around Fort Napoleon to permit residential development

Flemish Minister Ben Weyts has partially declassified protected land surrounding Fort Napoleon in Oostende to facilitate a residential tower project by developer Versluys. While the fort and adjacent dunes retain protected status, the decision marks a shift in land-use policy to accommodate urban expansion on the Oosteroever site.
