Texas Gov. Abbott skips gubernatorial debate with Hinojosa, first time in career

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declined to debate Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election, marking the first time he has avoided a gubernatorial debate. The decision signals confidence in his re-election prospects and may reflect a strategic choice to limit exposure, though it could also be criticized as evasive. The move is notable as a departure from his previous debate participation.
